Here at the Center for Digital Scholarship we have been lucky to work with some very dedicated, creative, and knowledgeable IUPUI students. These students have played a huge part in the building of our collections through scanning, metadata creation, and even digital photography. Annie Pho
Annie Pho is an Academic Resident Librarian at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she works in reference and instruction. She has a Bachelor's in Art History from San Francisco State University and graduated from the SLIS program at IUPUI with her Master's in Library Science. In her first year of SLIS, she worked in the IUPUI University Library digital library department. She has fond memories of department pizza parties, and digitizing/reading letters from soldiers in the Civil War.
In her current position at UIC, she provides research assistance and teaches information literacy sessions to undergraduate and graduate students. She also actively builds campus partnerships with the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center, the Asian American Studies Department, and the Gender and Women Studies Department, where she works with faculty and staff to investigate ways the library can best support their students. She's working on various library instruction research projects, including a grant funded digital badging pilot project for teaching information literacy, and an assessment project aimed at understanding how first-year writing students use library resources.
She's a 2014 ALA Emerging Leader, and her team’s project is to assist ALCTS in determining best practices for the division’s social media presence. They'll be presenting their results at the ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas. She's also participating in the Minnesota Institute for Early Career Librarians this summer, and going on an epic cycling trip with 100 other international librarians in France.
Her research interests include diversity and stereotypes in librarianship, playful design, and critical pedagogy in information literacy instruction. She recently coauthored a book chapter in The Librarian Stereotype: Deconstructing Perceptions and Presentations of Information Work that was just published through ACRL.
In her free time, she likes to hang out with her cats, ride her bike along Chicago’s many bike paths, and dream up ways to see the world.
