The Musikverein, a musical society formed in 1897, staged productions of several light operas, including The Mikado and Martha. The Chimes of Normandy was performed by the Musikverein in 1903 and featured a program designed as a scroll. Among the firms advertising on the program were Vonnegut Hardware, the Indianapolis Brewing Company, L. Strauss and Company, H. Lieber Company, Kipp Brothers, and Charles F. Mayer and Company, all companies owned by prominent German-American businessmen from Indianapolis.
