On this day, David Rawson, a career foreign service officer with the United States Department of State, spoke at the "Lunch and Learn" program in the Union Building. Stationed in Bamako, the capital of Mali in West Africa, Rawson was an expert on US policy in Africa and African military affairs. In the 1990s Dr. Rawson served as ambassador first to Rwanda and later Mali. He retired from the foreign service in 1999 and later taught at Hillsdale College in Michigan.
