Among other things, they document the health status of the population and of important subgroups, identify disparities in health status and use of health care by race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, region, and other population characteristics, provide information for making changes in public policies and programs, and evaluate the impact of health policies and programs.

As one of 12 agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, AHRQ supports health services research that will improve the quality of health care and promote evidence-based decision making. They provide links to statistical data in the Data & Surveys section, along with useful information in many other areas.
