U.S. Government Information
As a Federal Depository Library, we provide free access to and reference service for publications issued by the federal government. While older materials are found mostly in the paper and microform collection, today the vast majority of government publications are available only on the Internet. USA.gov is the place to go for information about the US government; e.g., agency websites, government services, product recalls, benefits, etc. FDsys: Federal Digital System (formerly GPOAccess) is the place to find government documents; e.g., congressional reports, hearings, documents, bill, and laws. Find also presidential documents, Federal Register, Code of Federal Regulations, US Code, US Government Manual, etc. THOMAS is a Library of Congress portal for federal legislative information. Find here bills and resolutions, congressional activities and calendars, committee reports, treaties, resources for learning about the legislative process (e.g. how a bill becomes law), and resources for teachers. IU Bloomington Federal Documents Webpage Our colleagues at the Wells Library have created an excellent information portal with links to the judicial, executive, and legislative branches, and to U.S. government departments, agencies, and selected documents. In most cases University Library will not have the print documents, but these are readily available at the Indiana State Library. Syracuse University US Government Information Webpage Another nicely organized and maintained portal to US government information. Pay particular attention to the "search engines" and "specific topics" links; most of the SU links on the right side of the page are proprietary databases paid for by SU and not accessible by IUPUI students. GovSpeak: a Guide to Government Acronyms and Abbreviations An Excellent page maintained by Kelly Smith at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library of UCSD. When possible, these links go directly to the official website for the agency or program listed. Subject Index to Government Information Maintained by St. Mary's University in Texas, it provides links to other libraries with particularly strong guides to particular subjects.

Statistical Resources on the Web (UMich) Comprehensive guide to government and non-government statistical resources; high quality site maintained by the University of Michigan Government Documents Center. FEDSTATS Provides access to the full range of official statistical information produced by the Federal Government without having to know in advance which Federal agency produces which particular statistic. With convenient searching and linking capablilties to more than 100 agencies that provide data and trend information on such topics as economic and population trends, crime, education, health care, aviation safety, energy use, farm production and more, FedStats is your one location for access to the full breadth of Federal statistical information. Data.gov Allows users to search for statistics by subject, U.S. federal agency, or both. A useful tutorial is provided for accessing datasets and other information via the website, which is worthwhile if you haven't downloaded datasets before. Statistical Abstract of the United States The Statistical Abstract of the United States, published since 1878, is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic organization of the United States. Use the Abstract as a convenient volume for statistical reference, and as a guide to sources of more information both in print and on the Web. Sources of data include the Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, and many other Federal agencies and private organizations. American Fact Finder American FactFinder allows users to search and analyze demographic and economic information about the nation and your communities using a variety of methods. ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research) An international consortium of about 700 academic institutions and research organizations, ICPSR provides leadership and training in data access, curation, and methods of analysis for the social science research community. ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 500,000 files of research in the social sciences. It hosts 16 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields. The Forum fosters coordination, collaboration, and integration of Federal efforts to collect and report data on conditions and trends for children and families. United Nations Statistics Division Gateway to statistical information from databases of UN and member states. World Health Organization Data and Statistics WHO's portal providing access to data and analyses for monitoring the global health situation, as well as statistics on chronic and infectious diseases of member states.

Indiana Statistics From IN.gov Indiana state website; many Indiana State Agencies, U.S. Government Agencies, and other organizations produce statistical files and publications, and a growing number of them place the statistics on the Internet. This guide provides direct links to many of the web statistical resources by subject. For economic and demographic data for Indiana, counties, and cities and towns, go to STATS Indiana. For additional help the State Data Center at the Indiana State Library (317-232-3733) collects copious amounts of Indiana statistics and has librarians on-site to help patrons wade throught the numbers. STATS Indiana The data on STATS Indiana are provided by more than 100 federal and state agencies, along with commercial or private data sources. The STATS Indiana database also powers Hoosiers by the Numbers and dozens of local and regional websites throughout Indiana. Includes calculations, graphs, comparisons of time or geography, time series and maps. States & Local Areas National Data Book The State and Local Area Website allows online access to the data provided by the Statistical Abstract supplement publications, State and Metropolitan Area Data Book and County and City Data Book. The electronic version provides more current data as well as source links which allow the user to access additional data not included in Census Bureau publications. Also provided are links to additional statistical resources which are not included in the publications. American Fact Finder American FactFinder allows users to search and analyze demographic and economic information about the nation and your communities using a variety of methods. Hoosiers by the Numbers User-friendly statistics database administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and features information for employers, job seekers, and economic developers. It offers many options for focusing on specific areas, cities, and industries. Kids Count Data Book A service of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, the website allows you to generate custom graphs, maps, ranked lists, and state-by-state profiles; or, download the entire data set as delimited text files. Indy Partnership Intended to attract business to the Indianapolis area, the website provides the most up-to-date Indiana demographics information on the Indianapolis Region and our 10 surrounding counties. SAVI Created and managed by The Polis Center, the SAVI Community Information System is the nation’s largest spatially-enabled system of its type, providing local organizations, researchers, and involved citizens with the detailed, geographically precise information needed to make well-informed decisions. SAVI contains a wealth of free data about the social, physical, and economic conditions of Central Indiana communities from counties to neighborhoods and census tracts, as well as information on thousands of non-profit and community-based organizations and programs.
