Diedrich A. Bohlen (1827-1890) came to America in 1851 from the German kingdom of Hanover. He moved to Indianapolis and founded an architectural firm that would become Bohlen, Meyer, Gibson & Associates, the oldest architectural firm in Indiana. His firm designed such famous Indianapolis landmarks as the Murat Temple, the Majestic Building, and the Morris-Butler House. Bohlen himself designed the original St. Vincent's Hospital, Roberts Park Methodist Church, and the Convent of the Little Sisters of the Poor.
