On this day, "Quality Urban Schools: What Works?" kicked off as a two-day event sponsored by the IU School of Education at IUPUI and the IUPUI-based Indiana Urban Schools Association. The conference explored issues such as school violence and full-day kindergarten from the perspective of urban schools.
The IUPUI School of Education has developed an international reputation for research advances in urban education, addressing the key challenges that educators in urban environments face. Throughout its history, the SOE has engaged closely with urban communities in Indiana, most specifically with Indianapolis.
The Indiana Urban Schools Association, located at IUPUI, is a consortium of the largest school corporations in Indiana with a goal of advocating for urban schools in the state.
