Where did the books go?

In order to accommodate new seats and study tables, we needed to clear space occupied by bookshelves. That meant we would have to remove some print materials from the collection. But which ones?

The easiest place to start was print journals. These are older journals that we previously had bound together and placed on our bookshelves. Now, most of these journals are more easily accessible online through our many databases. We looked at our collection to choose the titles that had not been used much in the past 10 years, were accessible online, and were available to borrow from the Wells Library at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Using these three criteria, we cleared approximately 4,000 shelves of bound print journals for this project. That’s over two miles of library shelves!
