Loan Periods & Borrowing Limits

Borrowing materials from the IUPUI University Library is considered a privilege rather than a right. Lending periods and borrowing privileges vary according to the status of the user, but the use of a valid borrower's card to check out materials implies agreement by the borrower to abide by the assigned due dates and to return the materials in good order. Failure to meet either condition may result in fines and/or the loss of borrowing privileges.

* Borrowing limits are for the number of items concurrently checked out from University Library. This limit does not affect materials charged out from any other library in the IU Library System.

** The Borrowing limit for faculty was set by the IUPUI Library Affairs Committee at 250 items during the spring of 2005, however this limit will be phased in over a period of five years. Starting with July 1, 2006, the limit will be reduced by 50 item a year until it reaches 250 concurrent items.

*** Indiana Resident borrowers who are teachers/faculty members may borrow up to 2 A/V items at one time for instructional use. You must provide a school ID or business card upon checkout. The loan period is 14 days.
Current journal issues and bound journal volumes do not circulate, however current members of the IUPUI faculty may check out current and bound journal volumes for 24 hours.
  • No more than five (5) items may be charged out at any one time.
  • These items may not be renewed.
  • The reserve fine schedule applies to these transactions.

The borrowing privileges of any patron may be suspended if and when they reach any of the limits listed above. This block will prevent that patron from checking out materials from any library in the Indiana University Library system. [Blocking policy approved by IUPUI Library Affairs Committee 4/94]

University Library also reserves the right to block the system-wide library privileges of any user if the mailing or e-mail address is no longer valid.

Residents of the State of Indiana age 16 and older can obtain an IUPUI University Library Borrower's Card and the accompanying library computer privileges by completing the instructions available at http://www.ulib.iupui.edu/libinfo/borrowerscard.
