Information and Policies for Guest ID's
Part of the mission of IUPUI University Library is to serve persons who reside, work or attend school in the state of Indiana but otherwise have no affiliation with IUPUI, Indiana University or Purdue University ("non-affiliated patrons"). This service includes allowing use of the public workstations in the UL building and providing access to the library's collection of electronic content. Circulaion Desk stops issuing vistor computer accounts at 30 minutes before the library closes.
Policy
University Library classifies its patrons into the following categories regarding Guest IDS and associated access periods. Every patron applying for a guest userid will be required to present proof of identification and Indiana Residency, except for IUPUI sponsored out-of-state visitors.

| Category | Default GRS Loan Period | Renewal Allowed? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Affiliated | 90 Days | Yes | This category includes anyone eligible for an IU (IUPUI) Network ID as defined by University Information Technology Services. These patrons are required to use their Network IDs in the UL building. Exception: An affiliated patron may check out a GRS ID for 48 hours if the UITS Campus Support Center is closed at the time of checkout. This is to rescue the student working late in the library who has forgotten his network password and cannot get it reset. |
| Nonaffiliated | 1 day | Daily | This category includes most Indiana residents not affiliated with IUPUI, IU or Purdue, plus certain others such as out-of-state students currently attending another Indiana college. There is a $1.00 fee per day unless you have a Student/Staff/Faculty ID from another school |
| Visiting Faculty | 90 days | Indefinite | This category represents visiting faculty sponsored by an IUPUI school or department. They may obtain a UL borrower's card by presenting a letter from their sponsor at the Circulation Desk. (Please note: it is recommended that all visiting faculty register with the IUPUI Office of Academic Affairs for several more faculty services.) |
| Group Leader | 1 day | No | This category represents the leader of a visiting student group (typically a high school teacher) who may request a group of computer IDs for use by his/her students. All IDs are checked out on the leader's UL borrower's card and the leader accepts full responsibility for their use during the entire access period. |
| Out of State | 1 day | No | This category represents out of state visitors (such as guest speakers) sponsored by an IUPUI school or department or invited by the University. |
Restrictions on Use
Most license agreements between IUPUI University Library and its database vendors specify that University Library must restrict use of licensed products to:
- Any patron in the UL building, or
- Any patron who can prove affiliation with IUPUI (usually by possession of a valid IU Network ID and password).
IUPUI University Library Guest Userids will be issued to requesting patrons who are at least 16 years of age and can present a valid picture identification and proof of current home address. The library reserves the right to refuse any Library Guest ID application or revoke any Library Guest ID, if the owner fails to abide by all computing and network policies of IUPUI University Library and Indiana University.
Responsibilities of Use
Guest users must follow University Library's computer use policies. In addition to following these guidelines, it is the responsibility of the Library Guest ID owner to secure the confidentiality of the Library Guest ID and password. Do not share your Guest ID and password with anyone. The password issued with the Guest ID should be changed immediately for security purposes. All lost or stolen userids should be reported immediately to the University Library Circulation Desk or 317/274-0472.
